Chess makes a smart move with Tessera
Tessera, the UK’s largest contract carpet tile manufacturer, has supplied floorcoverings for the impressive new Aberdeen HQ of the Chess Group plc, home to Chess companies Knight Real Estate and Space Solutions. The building was designed by Space Solutions, the Group’s own commercial architectural and interior design specialists. The objective was to deliver a thought provoking and inspirational working environment for Chess personnel, and to ‘showcase’ the Group’s creative ideas and talents to prospective clients.
Appearance, quality and durability of the floorcoverings were of equal importance in Space Solution’s design brief. High performance carpet tiles in a variety of different colours and textures were specified from Tessera’s Ethos, Optimum Chroma and Acrobat ranges. They were fitted to an exacting design by commercial flooring and furnishings contractors, Deeside Contracts of Aberdeen.
In this unique project, two traditionally styled, three-storey granite townhouses were knocked into one to create a state-of-the-art office complex. Whilst the imposing front elevations retain their original Victorian styling, a large extension and balcony have been added to the rear of the property and the interiors have been transformed into spacious, stylish and contemporary workspaces with sympathetically restored original features.
Over 650m2 of open plan office space has been created in addition to 20 smaller offices and meeting rooms. Tessera’s carpet tiles have been laid throughout. Subtle combinations of shade and texture have been used to delineate walkways through the open plan areas and contrasting cut-outs add interest at doorways, break out areas and meeting rooms.
Knight Real Estate invested in, managed and successfully delivered the development. Director, Howard Crawshaw comments: “As we’ve used Tessera’s carpet tiles successfully on many of our clients’ projects in the past we had no hesitation in turning to the company again when it was time to source the floorcoverings for our own Group HQ. The colours and textures of the different tile ranges work exceptionally well together. Our contractors did a very thorough and professional job, bringing our floor designs to life within a tight timescale and we’re all delighted with the finished results”.
