Call centre staff create their own floor designs with Tessera

With a little help from Tessera, employees at Alliance & Leicester’s call centre in Ashford, Kent, have transformed their previously plain, traditionally styled office surroundings into a vibrant, colourful working environment with a striking floor design scheme they all helped to specify.

The main open-plan floor of the refurbished office now features bold circular patterns, created using Tessera’s distinctive Artworks Deco and Plain textured loop pile tiles in Ink Blue, separated with bands of contrasting New Sheerpoint cut pile tiles in Poison. The carpet tiles were fitted by Grantham based contractors, National Floor Layers.

Karen Witty, Senior Customer Services Manager for Alliance & Leicester, said: “In our main office where some 200 staff are busy tele-marketing and handling customers enquiries, we wanted to create an invigorating, high energy ambience to inspire and motivate them. We were looking for upbeat, bold designs and colourways but we also wanted to ensure that the scheme was chosen democratically and met with everyone’s approval. We worked very closely with Tessera to generate hundreds of different design ideas and potential colour options. We then shortlisted these and had a designated ‘Voting Day’, inviting all the employees to share in the decision making process”.

Karen added: “The concept of colour psychology has also been applied in the training areas where we’ve opted for calmer and less energetic designs and colour schemes which are more conducive to successful learning. Our next task is to work on completely different feel for our relaxation areas which are yet to be refurbished."

”Involving Alliance & Leicester staff in the carpet tile specification seems to have had a very positive effect in the Ashford call centre" said Karen: “Our bank is always keen for its employees to share in the running of the business wherever possible and this was just one way in which we have been able to fully involve the whole team and allow them to ‘own’ their workspace. Now I have an even more motivated and energised workforce, and the pride they have in their new-look office is incredible. It looks outstanding right now and everyone is determined to keep it that way”.
